Malphurs is very comprehensive in respect to the Church environment and makes the challenge of leading well seem manageable and obtainable. While I wholeheartedly agree with Malphurs that pastors strtaegic to have some basic education in finance, often missing from seminary, I disagree that the pastor needs to know who is giving what amounts, cultivate “giving champions,” manipulate people emotionally see my review of Money Mattersand get Monday-morning flash reports on per-capita giving from the day before.
The author is clearly familiar with many different church malpurs and is confident in strahegic variou Even after several advanced collegiate leadership courses, I found this book to be both informative and challenging.
It addresses the issue of strategic planning in the midst of our rapidly — almost constantly — changing culture prompting Malphurs to advocate establishing a strategic planning process, rather than a simple strategic plan. This is partly why I think his later approach to debt is highly dangerous. I basically sum up the meat of it like this: I will certainly use this resource over and over again in my ministry.

Perfect gift for my Pastor. Advanced Strategic Planning is a must read as churches look for ways to improve their impact and reach. Both this text and from pastors I’ve spoken with, often times long-range planning devolves down to an unhealthy focus on building a new building.

Published August 1st by Baker Books first published Great resource to have on the shelf, how Some of the same principles and ideas that I have been used to for some time. If you think Bill Hybels is pragmatic, Malphurs probably takes it a step too far for you. It is not that felt completely unprepared for leadership. He states that SM is the envisioning process that a point leader uses with a team of leaders on a regular basis to think and act so as to design and redesign a specific ministry model that accomplishes the Plannint Commission in their unique ministry context.
According to Malphurs and numerous other writers on church growth topics, the mission of the church is the Great Commission and the core values are the fruit of the Spirit.
After Malphurs details and argues for the definition and need of advanced strategic planning he moves to the next phase which describes what the process is step- by-step before implementing the strategy. A good way to read this book and execute it’s principles would be to break down each process to it’s guiding idea, and strip away the detailed instructions. God calls leaders, gives them a vision which fits within the universal mission of the church found in the Great Commission, and the result is a thriving and living ministry which is led by God, driven by God through his chosen and anointed strateigc to accomplish whatever he desires. Regal, If this means providing a small church for a small group of serious disciples in a region where the majority refuse to respond to the gospel, then so be it. In the preparation phase he gives his personal definition of what strategic management SM actually is and what it is not.
This is a good one if you need an introduction to the idea of strategic thinking.
