Amphigorey Too

Gorey’s one of our favourite writers, and we enjoy reading him together. But it auctually was. It was such a delight to fall into a collection that evoked the same hypnotizing melancholy I felt watching the Mystery! So witty, so darkly humorous and mocking. In later years he illustrated many children’s books by John Bellairs, as well as books in several series begun by Bellairs and continued by other authors after his death. I am very much looking forward amphogorey the forthcoming biography.

There are some gems in there. For unique inspiration using visually driven narrative in prose and verse, educators can look no further than these extraordinary offerings from Riggs and Gorey.
Amphigorey Too by Edward Gorey
I guess having a signature Amphigorey Too is a wonderfully strange book. Overall, I guess I get enough Gorey from various random sources, one panel at a time, because I have no particular intent to read any of the amphivorey compendiums. It’s much easier to rate each story individually.

This collection of twenty picture books is packed with so many things I tpo, such as gloomy, gothic settings, cruel fates, mean-hearted children, archaic polysyllabic words, irreverent gallows humor, obscure references, demons, murder, smoking, dead babies, satiric portrayals to class systems, a mistrust of religion, villainous adults, and more than a few bleak, bitter ending.
But there is also a humor to them all; very dark humor mostly.
Gorey’s a rare one.
