The biggest downside is that Loomba hurls so much information at her readers that it’s hard to make sense of it all. I refer to it colonialksm the time. She researches and teaches early modern literature, histories dolonialism race and colonialism, Ania Loomba is an Indian literary scholar. Everything is clearly explained without being dumbed down or too reduced, the author highlights all the complexities and contemporary reactions.

Leif rated it liked it Nov 08, I must have underlined and marked half the book. This, along with Said, is a really good primer for the subject. I don’t think it’s a good book as an introduction: Colonial and Postcolonial identities. Loomba also looks at how sexuality is insinuated in the texts of colonialism, and how contemporary feminist ideas and aniia intersect with those of post-colonialist thought.

But this book is a good way to gain new perspectives on colonialism and postcolonialism. Though much of the volume as somewhat dry and Byzantine it is a textbook, after allthe sections on feminism and postcolonialism and colonixlism conclusion–focusing on globalization, the new American imperialism, etc.
