With it in your inventory your Smithy expertise would increase by The tech manuals are very useful if you want to craft some of the later found schematics.

If you want a better effect ,you can use a potion to temporary increase your intelligence to But you have to use the potion before you put the manuals in your inventory. Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die.
What is broken about that? You can’t use them anyway. Not to mention the fact that by the time you can afford all those manuals, you should be massively powerful already anyway.
And there is no mechanic to allow technological allies to craft found schematics. If you are going to give anyone the Pyrotechnic Axe, then odds are it is someone that should have been able to craft it in the first place.
I think it’s sheer lunacy that the tech followers don’t max out their two disciplines. It severely hampers them.

They all reach what, level 4 or 5 I think? Except Franklin who only gets 1 in every category. They don’t really become useful as such then.
