These two chapters are my favorite in the book and I recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to read the whole book but has an interest in a deep and insightful discussion about human nature, suffering, and religion.
The third book is about the peripheral parts of the camp, including revolts, exile and even the release apart from a discussion on why it is not something which is truly gone in Russia.
One would forget that Gulag are to be remembered more for their brutality, and the system that created them, towards countless millions rather than successes or failures of a small fraction that resisted or survived.
