My source of input is the well-known textbook, Athenaze, used in my college course. I even have Luigi Miraglia’s Italian version now, praised for. It is our common opinion, based on our studies and experience, that the much augmented Italian edition of Athènaze, by M. Balme, G. Lawall. The Italian Athenaze has no exercise keys. I suppose this would be a big problem for a native Italian speaking self-learner. For my purposes.

Latin-English English-Latin is excellent and reasonably priced. Itallan emphasis in the natural-language approach is to first learn to speak and read and to some degree write Latin or Greek as ktalian everyday languages they were. And the handbooks are the only source with keys to the exercises in the main books. In sum, obviously you need to learn Latin grammar in order to read Latin. Except for the vocab, the Italian in the book is not necessary, and the vocab is usually pretty simple Italian. This is far more effective than vocabulary lists of unrelated words as a means of building your lexicon.

I found RG to be somewhat like the Cambridge Latin Course, which I swear by, because I need some explicit tables and things to make notes from as well as just reading the texts. The result is a text which teaches Greek in Greek, and that contains detailed grammatical explanations in Italian; but I find they are somewhat unnecessary, fortunately.
Special effort was made to include in the early chapters the words that occur most often in Attic Greek. OK, I gave it a shot: In my quest to resurrect my Latin, I started with Wheelock.

The progression is still tough, but I think the Italian edition is a huge improvement over the English one. I’m currently using the “Reading Latin” books.
