I feel it capitalized on Western stereotypes and failed to present any real human story. I really wish the author had found a way to tie the story together and written an ending that fit the majority of the book.

What I felt was insincerity, mostly. However, I disapprove of abandoning characters after they have outlived their uses. I forced myself to finish this in order to learn how to commit to things. The reference to Stallone, under Mao’s regime, was weird too.

It reads more like a parable or a short story than a novel. The story is told from the perspective of one of the boys, Ma, and is about his relationship with his friend Luo and their preoccupation with a young seamstress in a nearby village.

Thirdly is the Little Chinese Seamstress of the title. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
