The bovedzs time Baley accused Daneel of the murder, I was annoyed. Caves of Steel is a single cohesive story, structured as a “whodunnit” detective novel. This is an overpopulated Earth, where as a matter of courtesy you don’t look at your neighbor to give each other some sort of privacy.

This book was interesting because the robot character, R Daneel, wasn’t there to be a developed character, but a witness to the journey of his creators. But the “detection” seems to consist of the cop just accusing one person after another – he doesn’t even question suspects.
I realize he no doubt just transferred different prejudices of the day onto future events, but I still felt like the society he created was believable and could easily take place, could easily develop. Where the science could very well be too much for young readers, the plot is far to simple for anyone over the age of I have not read much Asimov, but judging from Caves of Steelhe knew how to make all that exposition engaging.

Baley starts out as a Racist who hates but is forced to work with a Robot and then changes over the course of the novel to appreciate and like his forced partner Olivaw.
