Based on the structure of the novel, that rumor makes sense. She is presented great wealth and, despite being in a devoted relationship with Han, she appears willing to end the whole relationship without any real discussion with Han because the prince maybe will bring a political alliance between his people and the New Republic and maybe will give her refugee citizens of Alderaan a vourtship home.
This story was well written by Dave Wolverton, that as a reader you become part of the worlds and can see the creatures and humans that are described in the story. She doesn’t have time for a relationship.
