I try to avoid steering new players to SRDs of games. In addition the the extras found in the “Premium” version reprintit also contains the errata, which are available for free from the WotC site linked in starwed’s comment. And I certainly think a new player to an experienced group should have no trouble learning from the SRD supplemented by his group-mates.
If the premium version of the book has extra content, that’s different than incorporating the erratawhich are just corrections to the main text. This has been addressed already, but to clarify: What is the difference between these Player’s Handbooks?

I’m afraid going to be incredibly pedantic and point out that Unearthed Arcana was to some extent a oed of material that was already released under the OGL; some of it by companies other than WotC. There are some notable missing features from the SRD. Email Required, but never shown.
The difference between those two is whether they have extras in the back. Zee 1 4.

SevenSidedDie Looking at my book, versus looking at the SRD, I’m not seeing a lot of differences in layout, organization, or content that would lead to this being the case.
Also, all errata is and always will be free, and most SRD websites including d20srd simply incorporate errata into the site.

It’s kind of awkward to reword that sentence for that exception, and Wizards did release Unearthed Arcana as part of its own SRD.
