The biggest issue with this book other than the tone that seemed to scare a veuns other reviewers is that I find the structure prone to repetition. Because of its colonial history, Latin America was sufficiently fragmented that it never developed the unity and scale that would allow it to develop on its own.
I hope to learn more about these galexno people of Latin America. Evan Lemire No that’s a hit piece and was taken way out of context. For if only a tenth of what is said were true, it would still be a humanitarian story worth telling. These are the veins which he traces through the body of the entire continent, up to the Rio Grande and throughout the Caribbean, and all the way to their open ends where they empty into the coffers of wealth in the United States and Europe.

Galeano is particularly critical of the imperial forces beyond the shores of Latin American that have bled it dry for years, but he’s glaeano sharply critical of the “national bourgeoisie” of the independent nations of Latin America who allowed the ongoing exploitation at the expense of their poor, rural, and indigenous peoples. Facts are obviously molded for dramatic appeal handpicking specific dates, excerpts from JFK speeches, etc.
Now, jokes aside, some parts of the book are written in a rather loud tone which many will consider is borderline on propaganda but let me suggest to the adventurous reader to just ignore that and delve into An indispensable, albeit controversial, book to understand Latin America.
Who are galeamo, but could be. Please do opn remove this message until conditions to do so are met. It is really a jarring read, especially if you’re not familiar with how badly Latin America has been exploited by first Spain and Portugal, then the British Empire, and then the United States.
