Taking place inright when the west began to “invade” the east, the story centers around 5 main characters Lady Heiko- the branded “lady of mystery” from Japan.
My major issue with the story comes from the mtasuoka of prophecy and the gift of foresight – a major component of the plot that has its place in a fantasy setting, but was anachronistic and fake in a historical novel.

tzkashi Want to Read saving…. Set at end of the Edo period, the last years of the samurai, the book opens 6 years after Japan opened its borders to foreigners for the first time in Cloud of Sparrows reads like a cross between an action film, a western, and a cheesy melodrama.

And what was my surprise when I discovered a well-written, well-researched and well-conducted story c I confess that I am not very fond of novels about Medieval Japan written by westerns. So I read it all the way through, and cannot recommend it very well at all. The family of the main character, Lord Ttakashi, is cursed to see the future. They are each a belief system that exists. Lots of political intrigue, cultural references, gorgeous settings and descriptions.
