Fullen to Read saving…. Jim Cullen tells students just what they need to know to write about the past. Caitlyn rated it it was amazing Dec 25, I know that this is marketed to students younger than I am, but this kind of pandering is lame and ineffective– and I don’t agree that conflating Lavigne with Easaying Mitchell and Alanis Morissette is anywhere near an accurate comparison. He is the author of nine books, among them Imperfect Presidents: Not bad, but tries too hard to be “hip” in lots of places– I don’t particularly need references to “Kanye” or “Averil Lavigne” throughout.
Putting It All Together: The structure allows the reader to dip in and out at leisure, and the short chapters help keep the book fast-paced. This is furthermore helped by the fact that each chapter essayiing relatively short. In analyzing the writing of history, he also shows why it matters.
Cullen is aware of his target audience, and understands that long chapters are unappealing to both the nervous and those with a short attention span. You are commenting using your Facebook account. It also helps to make the book less daunting to a newcomer; they can stick to what they need to read, rather than perusing the whole book.
However, chapters fourteen and fifteen appear to make extremely similar points; it was difficult to see the purpose of keeping the topics separate — in fact, it actually made the subject matter more confusing, if anything. This is useful, as it ensures all chapters are focused on the topic they say they are about, which is not always the case with historical literature.
