Their knee-jerk reaction and violent depression is not romanticized in any way. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel and this book goes on my to-buy list when released!
We are given several flashbacks throughout the whole story. I really liked the “Past” and “Now” variation to the story.
He is supposedly the bad guy. Sure, it’s realistic in a sense since there are parents out there like that, but He fought till last moment to keep Nikki safe but with a terrible price to pay. There is a fair amount of skill involved in doing this without confusing the readers.

I know Hades and Persephone is pretty marketable right now, but it’s not as if Orpheus and Eurydice is unpopular. Something other than hiding by the drinking fountain to knit, just waiting until her time ticked away. It’s the world caught between this one and the next, a layer between Earth and hell. The little details about her hands shaking, and the way she just felt so fragile, were amazing.
It was not clear whether Cole was in love with her or not, but he feels something fierce and protective for her.

Nikki feels just like that, and ends up turning to the wrong person Cole. View all 22 comments. That does not play for me at all. Are you tired of the usual teen angst? No one in this story truly grabbed me, other than Cole of course it would figure that I’d be curious about the presumed villain.
I had tons of other books to read. I had some questions with the Everneath world that I wanted answers to and maybe they’re answered later in the series.
Jasmin Have you read the second book? While others may tell you that Everneath is focused on a teenager searching for redemption after disappearing mysteriously from her loved one’s lives, I would tell you that Everneath is mostly about Nikki’s attempts at rebuilding her past relationships – most prominently her relationship with her former boyfriend, Jack. I have continued with the series, because it’s easy and I do plan on reading anything even vaguely “Hades and Persephone”, but it’s not something I’d recommend to most people.

There are a few aspects in Everneath that make it stand out above the usual follies in the paranormal romance genre. It’s forgetting that’s hard. How did she survive the Feed?
The author deals very well with the subject of drugs in the form Cole and how he robs Nikki of her emotions. A lot of the book is definitely paranormal romanceor PNRor even Love in a Supernatural Climate – take your pick. Nikki is a great main character.
