An exploration in depth of these possibilities, giving the characters more dimension, could have made this a great book for those interested in such dysfunction. Brite’s corpes is done so well you can almost smell the scents of the decadent French Quarter.
This is nightmarish horror, lurid and grisly. Unfortunately, she does too good of a job here, and I felt a little queasy at some points.
Be the first to discover new talent! She draws from her own life in New Orleans to describe a city that is horrible and alluring at the same time. Aug 27, Kendare Blake rated it really liked it. The novel was published inand the disease is treated as a death sentence and yet ignored by most of the characters.

This fell into the former category for me. A good horror story is like rolling up on the scene of a car accident before they’ve had a chance to clean up the mess.

She is extremely talented, and a master of her craft. Why didn’t I review this one before? And I read that Brite has abandoned horror and now writes novels about running a restaurant in New Orleans.
The thing exuisite irritated me about this book was that Andrew’s chapters were in first person, and everyone else’s were in third.

Some chapters are told in the first-person past-tense of Andrew, the rest are all third person omniscient in the present, which is relatively annoying and lame.

They are no longer together. Brite may well lose fans this time, her superbly composed arias on the most disgusting forms of death and sloshy decay being likely to turn off many admirers of her previous torchlit searches through the caverns of hell.
That said, we end up with a really strong character study of four men, in two exquuisite.

A blood-soaked romance with human entrails and sandwiches of flank-meat lightly fried in butter. After feigning his own death to escape from prison, Compton makes his way to the United States with the sole ambition of bringing his “art” to new heights. The descriptive nature of this book is quite spell bounding and I did love the play with words Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Not something that everyone would enjoy.

In earlyBrite turned in the finished manuscript of Exquisite Corpse and was informed that Delacorte would be unable to publish the novel due to its violent content.

I’m actually kind of glad Brite’s moved on from horror to more mainstream fiction, because I’m not sure how the constant portrayal of exqujsite men in her stories as depraved sexual sadists and psychopaths does much for public perception of gay people. There is a moment of violence, when copse say: Georgia was making sandcastles and bdite on trampolines and there was I reading about gay serial killers who eat their victims and then each other.

This machination is used to describe a method of writing through collaboration where each writer will tack on their narrative to the end of the last, without necessarily knowing what came before.
The work bounced from publisher to publisher, who praised the novel’s writing but ultimately rejected it, calling its subject matter “too nihilistic, too extreme, a bloodbath ppppy justification”. Brite’s hardcore horror opus is not for everyone.
Recognizing that Lucas is already on the verge of death, Andrew refuses to kill him, instead offering him several means to commit suicide. In conclusione perverso, morboso, malato ma a suo modo avvincente, psichedelico, poeticamente delirante.
Written in sections of alternating points of view with no delineation between them, we meet Andrew and Jay whose common thread is their obsession with corpses and young boys and combining the two. Both subjects seem thoroughly explored even overdone today.
