I was introduced to this author through a friend of mine and found that I enjoyed the universe so when I found out that “Fire Watch” was the first story ever written in this universe I thought I’d start off right and get to know the rest of the stories. How can I find out? At least Enola is out of it.
November 2 – I’ve been up on the roofs for a week straight, helping some incompetent workmen patch the hole the bomb made.
I used a dictionary constantly during this novella, which didn’t interest me much until the last pages. I put my arm over my eyes. Surely I have the facts of yesterday’s bomb in long-term, but even falling plaster did not jar them loose this time.

Kind of wish I had that magazine now. Half the art in science fiction is making a projected future seem completely possible, and Willis demonstrated a respectable familiarity with American denominationalism as she constructed a future religious landscape I couldn’t help but half-believe in.

October 1 – I thought last night’s retrieval of the events of September tenth meant some sort of breakthrough, but I have been lying here on my cot most of the night trying firswatch Nazi spies in St Paul’s and getting nothing.
They do not matter here. In “A Letter from the Clearys”, a routine message from distant friends shatters the fragile world of a beleaguered family. In the meantime I’ve run out of make-work and taught myself to work a stirrup pump.
