There is absolutely no plot, with only the flimsiest excuse of a story thrown in between sex scenes, foul language, and an oppressive feeling from the “love interest” who, let’s face it, is just shy of physically and mentally abusive.
I didn’t really care about the story but this is what I know: I can’t say I won’t read further installments, because I seem to be drawn to this series like onlookers to a train wreck, but if they’re anything like the first two, I can pretty much guarantee I won’t like them. Taken from her home and family, shamaness Aisling McConaughey must enter the “ghostlands” to save a wealthy man’s mistress.
We are experiencing technical difficulties. A disappointing end to a promising and intriguing premise.
They were both so good and so different yet have a few similarities too. The relationship between Aisling and Zuarel is at turns both frightening and endearing. Seriously, I’m not making this up. Which is a shame, because the ancillary characters were kind of more interesting than the main hero for parts of the book. Ghostland World 3 books.
Part of it has to do with the type of fhostland Aisling is.
All in all, the mythology is just breathtaking. From there on out the book is full of stiffening, hardening and slickening and it’s a miracle if one of the two characters manages to make it through one of the ghoxtland non-sex scenes without becoming sexually aroused.
And while their motivations are not always clear, they do tend to strengthen the story line.

Please try again later. Their sexual episodes weren’t written well, as if the author’s strpng just wasn’t in it or she was a prude trying to be explicit – which doesn’t gel either because she has several books published under Ellora’s Cave. Because she has summoned Zurael she can command him at will. Part of the problem might be with the fact that I struggled to read this and kept reading other books in-between, but that wouldn’t account for all of its problems, not least of which was how boring it was.
Jun 01, Judith rated it really liked it. The remaining city enclaves that remain are in the hands of the ultra-rich and the ‘church’, and neither is immune from what ultimate power breeds–corruption. What you need to know is – chaos rules, the day ruled by the Church and secret organizations, the night by predators. What makes the sex even worse is that it tends to crop up just as the rest of the narrative is starting to get interesting.
And even during that their conversations didn’t go any farther than her moaning ‘please’ 56 times and he grunted and said her name a lot. However, I just want to put it out there the bedroom scenes were much more graphic than I was expecting – just so you know.
