The author seems to have the knowledge to elaborate on the verbal fight—maybe standing up to a bully, de-escalating a situation with a patron, cross-examining or being cross-examined—and a chapter on this type of argument would have made the book more complete.
The small information boxes popping everywhere served more as a distraction, providing rather minimal value for the damage they cause to the reading flow well, to be fair you can skip them entirely, but duh.
I would call this rhetoric light, as in half the depth of a book about rhetoric, and not as insightful.

My boyfriend gave me this book because it’s a rhetoric book, and being that I majored in Rhetoric in college, he thought I’d enjoy it. Everywhere you can converse with someone else, you can use this book. As a consultant, Heinrichs pioneered a technique called the halo: Unfortunately, this author almost exclusively covers what I would call “negative” persuasion and manipulation and psychological tricks thsnk so this is in part a labeling issue.

B was a stern taskmaster and a hard grader– and I learned so much about polishing self-expression and about analyzing other’s expressed opinions. It’s a very information-dense book, which is the reason it took me 18 months to finish.
