I’ve been riding for thirty years, and have owned, at one point or another, almost every type of motorcycle. Steering geometry, contact patch, friction dynamics, cornering and countersteering, center of gravity and braking are explained simply with pictures.
There are very few usable lessons or techniques and each one is hidden within layers of warnings about death and dismemberment, useless stories with no point or with many beaten dead horses.

Spread your reading over several weeks and climb onto your bike between chapters to practice. Riding and life can be very fun but all arounds us accidents are just waiting to happen. I tend to pick it up when I’ve been struggling with I am embarrassed to admit that although this book is well-written, informative and descriptive, I haven’t read it all the way through. I am quite certain she will learn to ride a ‘little’ differently than I did.

He’s not an outlaw, because that’s ego-riding, the kind of riding that startles and angers other motorists. Jun 24, David rated it it was amazing. This is as good an introduction and motivator for studying bike safety as we have seen.
A lot of experience has gone into writing about what to do in situationas and how to handle a motorcycle. We note and approve Hough’s take on following and sight distances. As winter nears the end and with the approach of spring I will pick this book up again to brush up on a motorccling worthy tips the book has to offer.
If there’s one proficiient that riding a motorcycle has taught me, it’s the importance of being alert, focused and well informed in all circumstances. Not only have they helped me learn what I needed to know to write this book, but they may have saved my life a time or two.

Hough Limited preview – I was reminded of this book in a recent conversation, and as it has a place of honor on my bookshelf, I thought I’d review it. He’s been an MSF Motorcycle Safety Foundation instructor and making safer riding sexy has been his greatest accomplishment.

Knowing full well the motlrcycling associated with riding a motorcycle, I read this book before even purchasing my first bike. One of the funniest things to me is that there’s actually a section explaining to you how to outsmart a dog that is trying to attack you while you’re riding your bike.
Hough’s skill as a photographer and illustrator adds a graphic element to houugh books that leads to immediate understanding of the concepts he explains.
