Besos de Sangre
I know that there are 7 books total in this series following Cat and Bones. I really want to know if this is a series for me I’m really into romance and recently took a liking sanhre PNR. Does this series have a lot of romance or is this more of an urban fantasy focused mainly on the drost and overcoming evil with a little romance in the background?
There is action scenes and a storyline enough to be a pageturner but this book also build the …more It is an even mix, you may say. There is action scenes and a storyline enough to be a pageturner but this book also build the romance of one of the greatest couple in the PNR world, so there is character development, humor, angst, romance, family, friendship and of course steamy sex. Above all, the two main characters are individually loved AND a loved couple.
Cat is a badass, sassy, funny, emotionally-damaged, insecure in ways and over secure in others but she grows so beautifully to except who jeniene is. Bones is simply one of the most amazing swoon worthy males in PNR, not only is he a hot british dude with the accent and looks and charm, he has a very well built character that makes you fall in love with him no question asked. Any recs of books similar to this, after reading the main series?
Something as dark as it is funny like this one. OhWell Kate Daniels, if you haven’t read it yet. See all 24 questions about Besos de sangre…. Lists with This Book. It took several tries but I finally finished it. Very standard paranormal romance book. Almost exact copy of Buffy and Spike.
Follows the established rules of: The female must always be less than the male. Less powerful, wealthy, educated, worldly, interesting, intelligent, attractive, etc – you name it – the male must always be better than the female. Since the female is less intelligent and educated than the male, she almost always is jeaniebe the southern United States.
Communication mus It took several tries but I finally finished it. Communication must be stuck on no-information shared whatsoever.
If there is a bomb in the trunk, neither character may tell each other. If something comes up, the default is to tell a lie rather than anything resembling the truth. Even if its just a trip to the corner store to get ice cream. Jealousy is hot and is the only way you know for sure the other person loves you.
The love is always irrational – there is no reason given why two people who hate each other fall in the deepest love. And jeankene on – just check a list of ‘how to ID an abusive partner’ Its terrible that females are telling other females that the storybook romance is one of abuse.
Review written in an emotionally charged state almost immediately upon finishing the book and contains liberal amounts of hyperbole and sarcasm.
My three expressions reading this book: The slut-shaming and internalised misogyny throughout this book are constant slaps in the face. God forbid a woman dress in a sexy manner, she is such a SLUT. How can a woman enjoy sex and giving pleasure to her partner???!!

The secondary characters are non-existent, a Warning: The secondary characters are non-existent, and what few characters exist sanrge two-dimensional and mistreated. The women are written horrifically.
Jeaniene Frost
There’s a quote floating around which states: Almost all the other female secondary characters are either fridged or evil. Francesca in particular is introduced as a potential romantic rival, objectified as is only natural, geez and then killed off.
It is also apparently acceptable to threaten women with sexual violence because oh hey, it’s a woman, they should expect that by now. Romanticising of abusive behaviour – man is possessive and in charge and constantly puts the woman in her place through disrespectful words and behaviour.
Jealousy comes out of territorial sense of entitlement and ownership. Sex used as a bargaining tool in power plays. God it doesn’t end. The gendered dynamics are offputting to say the very least.
And the woman is constantly dismissed and her concerns thrown aside in the infinite wisdom of the older and mature man in the relationship. Added bonus of the protagonist being pushed to the point of going on a rant about how ‘it’s the 21st Century now!! Entirely unlikeable main characters for some of the reasons discussed above.

The protagonist has the emotional maturity of a 14 year old girl and there is zero chemistry between the two main characters. It’s like the author put forward two stereotypes and expected the reader to just assume that the motions they go through are the natural elements of two people falling deeply in love. The relationship is shallow as all hell but God do they deserve each other. Terrible, terrible writing and cringeworthy bad dialogue.
The writer tried to accomplish way too much with conversations – exposition, character development Logic leaps and assumptions are full of holes yet applauded as ingenious and inspired.

Terrible and wrong behaviour are passed off as justified when they really aren’t. No-one talks like this, no-one repeats themselves this much, no-one has so many lectures in their speech and no-one has a conversation where both parties never say anything less than 2 full paragraphs of speech.
It’s often over-descriptive, over emphasised, over dramatic and generally convoluted. Very few of the discussions in this book felt real to me. Not even going to go into the treatment of minorities in here. Is evil, gets threatened with being sold off into sexual slavery, killed.
Abused by her husband, saved by our white boy vampire and OH what a hero he is. Francesca, see how she was treated above. And there’s the ‘Indian’ who went off on a suicide mission and gifted Bones his cave before he died.
How so very nice of him. Some golden quotes from the book: Not that I frosr the extra activity, to be honest. I’d found out I enjoyed it. Guess that made for two tramps in the room. If this is one of the highest rated paranormal romances in the genre, I can’t even begin to imagine what the quality of the rest is like.
This reivew is for frpst audio version only – The narration on this for Bones was so bad that I couldn’t get more than jenaiene minutes into the book. It’s a really shame as this series is a favorite of mine and I was so happy to see it available on audio.
However, it was a very poor choice by someone to hire a narrator who, I’ll give you does a fine job on Cat, but seems to think that Brits sound like Dick Van Dyke jeanieene Mary Poppins, completely ruining what is supposed to be a dead sexy character. View all 24 comments.
Besos de Sangre : Jeaniene Frost :
I felt it was a mess. The writing had a very immature feel to it. As I was listening to Halfway to the Grave, I posted a couple of snarky updates on Goodreads, as one does when one feels so inclined. Just for the record, I think that a by there was tons of PNR stuff already for Frost to pull from with her flavor du jour, like Buffy and Twilight As I was listening to Halfway to the Grave, I posted a couple of snarky updates on Goodreads, as one does when one feels so inclined.
So, be warned, this will probably be both ranty and irreverent. Read the full review at A Reader of Fictions. Midwestern girl, half-human half-vampire child of rape, hunts vampires at nightclubs until she gets involved with one yes, like that and is drawn into the big leagues of fighting evil.
I gave it pages, then caught myself thinking about my toenails while I read. They were more interesting.
