May 09, Jimmy added it. This book does not encourages me in my faith, nor does it show me unknown features of my awesome God. How often do we think about God’s providence in our birth and upbringing?
It’s a difficult book, at least to me at the time last year. He is involved with ever facet of our lives: He would post a summary of and post their comments on his blog each Thursday, and each one in the group could read his comments, and also post their comments, or respond to the comments of others concerning the book.
But for the person who will give the time to apprehend progidence most sacred of subjects, he will not be disappointed with the assistance of The Mystery of Mysfery. What you do find is a wealth of biblical meditations concerning the pastoral benefits of the doctrine.
But Flavel demonstrates from numerous biblical precepts and examples that though God’s dealings are indeed mysterious, they are always exacting and purposeful.
The context that Flavel is writing under persecution, expulsion, near imprisonment is always near your mind while he grapples with the extraordinary hope and beauty offered by the provi One of the most timely and encouraging books I’ve read in a long time. While we may se This is a wonderful book. He gives excellent advice on how to trust in God in the midst of those situations. You will not find an argument for meticulous providence in this book, so the title is perhaps a little misleading.
I was introduced to this prolific writer, and dedicated Puritan through the reading of this book. The time I’ve taken to read this book has been much It also does not make me happy, nor do I feel exhorted by its message.
Nothing is an accident, nothing is outside God’s sovereignty, and God crafts all in the life of His children as a loving father prepares exactly the right circumstance to mold us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
I do like how the author brings the devotional flavor to the subject of God’s providence.

There are books that are written for a particular season of life and experience and then are other books which, although they jphn be more relevant in particular seasons of life, are whole-life books. I do plan to pick it up again. Flavel handles his task with theological precision and cogent application.
