It really does have the basis for a great story. It was a little over my head when I read it.

Never was there a point when I wanted to pick up this book because it was interesting and I couldn’t wait to get back to the story. Despite a conciliatory statement by Iran inand Rushdie’s declaration that he would stop living in hiding, the Iranian state news agency reported in that the fatwa would remain in place permanently since fatwas can only be rescinded by the person who first issued them, and Khomeini had since died.

Wonderful things happen in this book that everyone should read, but it’s not worth getting through all the unnecessary to get there. Satannicos paring down and a sharper focus would have helped. On 12 Februarya 10,strong protest against Rushdie and the book took place in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Rushdie’s prose is rich and he handles humorous and tragic situations with equal facility, and I saw lks he was aiming at, for the most part, though I think there are layers of nuance and cultural references I no doubt did not get. As for the critically acclaimed satanico, sure the books was beautifully written but the magical realism was probably turned up to the extreme in this novel and it was difficult to piece together.
