That said, I don’t believe the Revelation is something to take lightly and I don’t believe you should read only one book about it. I am personally not convinced of all of his interpretations, but I am greatly encouraged by his overall handling of the book and his presentation of the hope that the church can cling to while living in a hostile world. Frankly it left me feeling spiritually cold; clinically sanitized. Hendriksen challenged me, but wiolian writing was never above my head. I found all of these particularly helpful as I read.

The books only real shortfall was that the author occasionally will tell the reader what certain visions or objects symbolizing without revealing how he came to that conclusion. He takes all views into account and argues for or against each one. Here is an excellent, “common sense” approach to interpreting the book of Revelation. I’m immensely thankful that my seminary professor assigned us this reading. It presents a lot of useful information. This review is also posted on Book by Book.

Instead, read this portion of God’s Word as though the same period of history Incarnation to Second Coming were being viewed from seven different perspectives, one for each of the seven visions that make up the book.


Initially my heart thrilled to see some of the idiotic conjecture drummed up the by Dispensationalists over the years exposed for garbage that it is, things such as Hitler or Mussolini, or Obama being the Antichrist, or the mark of the beast being an actual tattoo or computer chip in one’s right hand or forehead.

The first six chapters of Hendricksen’s book are introductory material. Hendriksen adopted very definite and sane principles of interpretation and clearly and consistently applied them throughout.

I think I understand now why many in the Reformed camp are accused of “spiritualizing” many portions of scripture. Awesome – truly sets forth the triumph of Christ over all enemies. But still, there was something compelling vencevores their arguments and while I wasn’t quite ready to embrace their theology wholesale, I agreed to mentally tuck it away for future study while I continued to focus on the more important doctrines of man’s sinful nature, God’s irresistible grace, Christ’s atonement for the sins of His elect, and the perseverance of the saints.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for a review. The beauty of this book vencedoers that it views the book of Revelation as one of the book of the Scriptures as a whole. Maks William Hendricksen is a fair representative of the A-mils, and I’m told that he is, then what we find in Amillennialism is, in my opinion, a weak, shadowy, mostly pessimistic, and highly subjective eschatology dressed up as “scripture interpreting scripture.

I think we need this kind of books more today than ever before. Hensriksen seems they just don’t want to talk about what they believe, or why they believe it.
